IX International Forum on Industrial Safety

IX International Forum on Industrial Safety was held from 31 May to 3 June, 2011 at hotel “Park Inn Pribaltiyskaya” in St. Petersburg. It was attended by representatives of industrial enterprises, state supervisory bodies and research institutes from 15 countries: Russia, Ukraine, USA, Hungary, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Austria, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, France, Poland, Germany and Uzbekistan.

This year, the participants attended the presentations on the causes, details of rescue operations and the lessons of accidents that have rocked the world community. These are “Fukushima-1”, the red mud spill at the alumina plant in Hungary and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. More than 40 presentations were made during the parallel sessions held in two halls.
The speakers included: Miroslav Lipari, the Head of the Department of Occupational Safety, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Victor Shaitan, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Service for Supervision of Mines and Industrial Safety, Ukraine, Attila Nikosh, head of the National Directorate for Disaster Management, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Hungary, and many others.
A wide range of excursion program was organized - the Forum participants had the opportunity to visit the suburban palaces and parks at the cities of Petergof and Gatchina located near St. Petersburg. There was also a panoramic tour “Legends and mysteries of St. Petersburg” in the evening of the first day of the Forum and a ride along the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg on the third day.
