Pumping of drains into the reservoir required additional approvals from the subsoil users at Rosnedra (the Federal Authority for Subsoil Use)

In order to ensure environmental safety in the disposal of industrial and domestic waste water – the waste that was formed during the extraction of hydrocarbons – into the depths of the Jubilee Oil and Gas Field,  the JSC Gazprom mining Nadym (Tyumen Region) started implementing the new requirements of the federal government.

By the autumn of 2010 the company is planning to develop a technology project for pumping industrial waste into the Senoman reservoir-bed of the Jubilee Oil and Gas Field, after having entrusted the execution to the company “GCE-Ecology”.

Previously the Geological Survey of Gazprom mining Nadym has developed a program for monitoring the polygon for the disposal of wastewater. The experts have to undertake scientific research on the results of the studies conducted on the subsurface of the Jubilee Oil and Gas Field, the technical condition of absorption of the wells and the technical and technological support at the polygon.

Tatiana Nifontova, the Director of GCE Ecology points out: “The fact, that the contaminated waste water is not discharged on the landscape, but completely removed from the areas of human activity, is the main advantage of this method. Besides, pumping the waste water into the depths saves huge investments on sewage treatment. This does not mean that the water goes untreated into the ground, it undergoes the treatment. The subsoil resources authority has imposed stringent sanitary requirements. We are also presently invited by the enterprise to get involved into the work for reducing the negative impacts on the Earth's crust”.

Recall that on 3rd March, 2010 Vladimir Putin has signed the Bill No. 118, which regulates the obligations of the enterprises on the underground disposal of industrial waste, including the development of technical designs, which must be approved by the Interdepartmental Commission of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use or by its territorial bodies in the regions. Presently, in the federal states their formation is in process.

Very recently the experts from GCE Ecology has conducted a geological study of another site of Senoman area of Urengoi Oil and Gas Field in the process of designing the technological project for the disposal of wastewater for JSC “Gazprom mining Urengoy”.

Fact Sheet: “GCE Ecology” belongs to GCE Group. Its main areas of activity include services to the enterprises in the field of environmental legislation and ecology consulting. The experts have participated in significant public projects such as the construction of the Olympic sites in Sochi, the automobile factories of Nissan, Toyota, and the community business centre "Gazprom-City" in St. Petersburg, as well as in projects for the development of the oilfields of Gazprom, TNK-BP, Lukoil.
